Why a Medical Marijuana Card May Be Right For You

By Timothy CarrinoSeptember 23, 2020No Comments

Despite the recent legalization of recreational marijuana within the state of California, many people still reap benefits from being holders of medical marijuana cards. Some benefits include fewer restrictions and saving money on your purchases. We gathered our top 5 reasons why you might want to consider getting a medical marijuana recommendation.

1. Lower age limit

Due to California’s relatively new restrictions on recreational marijuana use, individuals looking to make recreational purchases must be 21 or older. However, with a California medical marijuana card, you only have to be 18 years old to use medical marijuana. This advantage can be very helpful if you’re under 21 but still need to use cannabis products for medical treatment.

2. More access to dispensaries

When you have a California medical marijuana card, you won’t ever have to worry about buying your product from a potentially disreputable seller. Cardholders have access to a wider array of dispensaries, which may often offer better quality products. Most medical marijuana dispensaries provide customers with higher-grade strains and a variety of THC to CBD ratios, so you’ll be getting a product that will better suit your needs as a medical consumer.

3. Opportunity to grow your own plants

If you’ve ever considered growing your own plants, a card will allow you to do so with significantly fewer limitations than a recreational grower. Recreational growers are only permitted to have six marijuana plants on their property at any one time, but with a card, you are allowed to grow more plants in any 100-square-foot area on your property.

4. Less overall restrictions

Despite recreational marijuana now being legal in California, there are still a handful of restrictions in place when it comes to using cannabis products. If you’re only a recreational user, there is more legislation surrounding carrying and using your cannabis products. For example, recreational users are limited to one ounce of flower or eight grams of cannabis concentrates at a time, while users with a card can buy and carry as much cannabis as their treatment requires. Even edibles have restrictions for recreational users, only 10mg of individual doses allowed at a time. But with a card, you’re able to buy more products.

5. Can save you money

Finally, one of the biggest benefits of having a medical marijuana card is the ability to potentially save money. While there are some costs upfront to get a cannabis card it’s well worth it. After you’ve received your card, you’ll be able to access major savings since you won’t have to pay sales tax on your medical marijuana products, so without a cannabis card, you’d be paying 14-20% more for your cannabis purchase. Cardholders may also discover savings when they shop at medical marijuana dispensaries, which often give their customers ways to save money. Depending on the dispensary that could mean anything from coupons and special deals, to store credit bonuses and rewards programs.

There are tons of measurable benefits that an avid cannabis consumer would get out of getting a doctor’s recommendation and a medical marijuana card.
